What the airline owes you

Airlines are not required to tell you what you can claim, and most do not. These guides set out the rules in plain terms: what qualifies, how much it is worth, and what an airline can legitimately refuse.

Flight delay compensation: what you can claim in the UK and EU

If you arrived three hours or more late, you can claim between £220 and £520 per passenger under UK261 or EU261 — unless the delay was outside the airline’s control.

Your flight was cancelled: refund, rebooking and compensation

You can choose a full refund or a replacement flight, and the airline must feed and house you until you travel. If you were told less than 14 days before departure, you can usually claim compensation as well.

Lost or delayed baggage: what you can claim

Report it at the airport before you leave and keep the reference. Airlines are liable up to roughly £1,000 per passenger, and you can claim the cost of essentials bought while you wait.

Denied boarding and overbooked flights: what you are owed

If you were bumped against your will, you are owed the same £220 to £520 as a cancellation, paid immediately, plus a refund or a replacement flight. Volunteering gives that up.

These guides explain the rules. They are not legal advice, and an airline’s own terms or the circumstances of your flight may change what applies to you.
